Interview- Jessica Mobley (Gainesville store manager)
1. What is your definition of a small business?
- My definition of a small business is locally owned and operated. A business that has strong values. They do small things within the community and show it customers the best customer service.
2. What impacts do local small businesses have on you personally?
- I feel like with small businesses I get more of a relationship. They know who I am and I feel better shopping with them.
3. What good do you think small businesses have on the community?
- I think small businesses want to stick together and help each other out and want to see good within their community. At Crider’s we try to be invoked in as much as possible while also giving back.
4. What made you want to work for a small business?
- Working for a small business you are heard and understood. You aren't just an employee or dollar sign, you are a person. I've enjoyed being able to work beside every level person of the business.
5. What have you learned from working for a small business?
- I've learned that customer service lives. It's amazing how you are treated in big chain stores vs how you are treated in most small businesses.
6. What do you think are some of the biggest impacts of small businesses?
- Biggest impacts of small business would be customer service, knowing who you are buying your products from, and a sense of trust.
7. Would you say small business help the economy more or less than large corporate businesses? Why?
- Yes small business I believe help the economy more. Box stores can pay employees at low wages and the employees are shown little to no gratitude for their work. This is why you get horrible customer service at most places. They also control the prices and have more capitol to build more stores which close small businesses who cannot keep up.
8. Are there any negative impacts of a small business?
- Every company has its ups and downs. If you don't have downs you're doing something wrong. It's the matter of whether you were trying hard and failed or just weren't trying why you failed and whatever it is. You can only learn and get better by seeing things from different perspectives and views.
9. Are you more likely to support a small, local business or a chain business if you are presented with the choice? Why?
- Small business because I feel more of a connection to them and want them to make it.
10. What are a few thoughts you have on small businesses? (This can be based on economics, friendliness, pure opinion, etc.)
- Small businesses have it harder than big corporations. They have to survive with less employees but also keep up with the always changing times. Keeping customer service high is the main thing in our small business. You want people to have a reason to go shopping and also thrive for personal connection instead of buying online or going for more of a discount with horrible shopping experience.
----- I agree with everything she said because like her, I too work for a small business and can personally relate. Every day, we try to make a connection with each customer that enters our doors. We provide jobs in the community and we help within the community to those in need. One example of us helping in the community like she said is when we serve at Good News at Noon. I would also chose to shop at a small business if given the choice. I agree completely with her idea that the biggest thing of a small business is the customer service. It is our main goal at Crider's. We both have the same ideas and thoughts of why we decided to work for a small business as well.
